Bangkok's Night Markets: Jodd Fairs, the Srinakarin Train Market, Asiatique and Where Locals Eat After Dark

Which Bangkok night market to pick, what we could confirm about it and how to get there.

For a first evening market in Bangkok, Asiatique The Riverfront is the easiest choice: it opens every day until midnight and a free shuttle boat runs from Sathorn Pier. Jodd Fairs is the city's best-known street-food market and the Srinakarin train market is the one for vintage goods, but check where and when they open before you go.

Bangkok's evening markets change more often than guidebooks admit. Leases expire, markets move across town and old opening hours stay online for years. This page sorts the three markets most visitors ask about by what we could confirm in October 2026, and shows how to reach each one on public transport. How to order food, which dishes to trust and how to manage small notes is covered in our beginner's guide to eating at Thai night markets, so we do not repeat it here.

Picking one market for one evening

If you have a single evening and little patience for traffic, go to Asiatique. It is on the river, it has the clearest transport of any market in this guide, and its owner publishes its hours. It is also the most polished of the three, more open-air mall than street market, with permanent shops in old warehouses and restaurants alongside the stalls.

If food is the reason you came, Jodd Fairs is the one Bangkok talks about. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) noted in February 2026 that it draws around 40,500 online searches a month, a measure of how many visitors plan around it. Expect crowds, long queues at the famous stalls and a younger, mostly Thai crowd on weekends.

If you want to browse rather than eat, the Srinakarin train market is the one TAT describes as famed for vintage fashion, antiques and quirky collectibles. It is the furthest from the center and the hardest to plan, so treat it as a second-evening outing.

Jodd Fairs: the food market that moved

Jodd Fairs grew out of the old Ratchada Train Night Market. TAT's attraction page describes it as a night market behind the Central Rama 9 department store, with an activity zone, a fashion zone and a street-food zone, and with vendors who came from the Ratchada train market. That page has not been updated in years. In March 2023, Time Out Bangkok reported that the lease on the Rama 9 land would expire and that the market would move to a new site on Ratchadaphisek Road as Jodd Fairs Ratchada, and later reports say the Rama 9 site has since closed.

We could not confirm the current address or opening hours on an official page in October 2026. TAT's February 2026 release confirms the market is still trading under the Jodd Fairs name, but it gives no location. Before you set off, check the market's own social media pages for the address and that night's hours.

Both the old Rama 9 site and Ratchadaphisek Road are on the MRT Blue Line, which runs underground along Rama 9 and Ratchadaphisek roads, with stations including Phra Ram 9 and Thailand Cultural Centre. The Blue Line accepts contactless Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay cards at the gate, and our guide to riding Bangkok's Skytrain and subway explains tickets and transfers.

Old addresses for Jodd Fairs are still everywhere online. Maps, hotel lists and even TAT's own attraction page may still send you to the former Rama 9 site. Type the market's current name into Grab or your map app and check the date of the listing before you travel across the city.

The Srinakarin train market: vintage goods on the eastern side

Talad Rot Fai, the Train Night Market Srinakarin, is named after Srinakarin Road on Bangkok's eastern side, far from the hotel districts of Sukhumvit and Silom. TAT listed it in October 2025 among the city's after-dark markets for both food and shopping, and singled it out for secondhand fashion, antiques and collectibles.

We could not verify its opening days, hours or the nearest station from an official source, and the market has no website we could reach. Many visitors travel there by Grab or taxi; allow for heavy traffic on the way out in the early evening. Our comparison of metered taxis and Grab in Bangkok covers which is easier at night.

Because it is open-air and further out, the Srinakarin market is the one most affected by rain. On a wet evening it can be half empty, and stalls may pack up early.

Asiatique The Riverfront by free shuttle boat

Asiatique is on Charoen Krung Road in Bang Kho Laem, south of the city center on the east bank of the Chao Phraya. TAT calls it a heritage warehouse turned shopping and cultural hub. Its operator says it opens every day from 11:00 to midnight, and TAT listed Asiatique among its retail partners in a campaign announced on 16 October 2026, so it is clearly trading.

Getting to Asiatique (operator, October 2026)

Free shuttle boat
Sathorn Pier to Asiatique and back, 16:00 to 23:30, every 25 to 30 minutes
To reach Sathorn Pier
BTS Saphan Taksin, exit 2
Orange-flag express boat
Until 17:00, to Wat Rajsingkorn Pier, then about 500 m on foot
Chao Phraya Tourist Boat
Afternoon to early evening; check the boat company's own timetable
By road
BTS Saphan Taksin exits 1, 3 or 4, then bus or taxi; city buses 1, 15, 17, 22 and 75

The free shuttle is the simplest way in and out, but it starts only at 16:00. If you arrive earlier, take the orange-flag boat, which the operator says stops serving the nearby pier at 17:00. The tourist boat also calls at Asiatique, but Asiatique's page and the boat company's poster give different service hours, so check on the day. Our guide to the Chao Phraya Express Boat explains the colored flags and the piers.

The riverside promenade is the reason to come at sunset. Plan to arrive by boat at about 17:00 or 18:00, walk the waterfront, eat, and take the shuttle back to Sathorn before 23:30.

Other evening markets, and where Chinatown and Chatuchak fit

TAT's own list of Bangkok's after-dark markets is longer than the famous three. It names Chang Chui Creative Park, which mixes craft stalls with art installations, Khlong Thom Market for art toys, Liab Duan Ramintra Market and the Pak Khlong Talat flower market. We have not verified their days or hours, so use them as names to look up rather than plans.

Two of Bangkok's best evening food areas are not markets in the usual sense. The street food along Yaowarat Road is covered in our guide to Bangkok's Chinatown after dark. Chatuchak Weekend Market is a daytime market that TAT says runs into the evening at weekends; our guide covers its days and stations.

Cash, QR codes and cards at the stalls

Bring cash. TAT's February 2026 advice for night-market visitors is to carry enough Thai baht because cash remains widely preferred, to bargain politely where it fits and to keep an eye on your belongings. Small notes make every purchase easier.

QR payment is growing fast. TAT announced in June 2026 that cross-border QR payment, run under the Bank of Thailand with eight Thai banks and partners including Alipay, WeChat Pay and UnionPay, is being rolled out to tourism businesses, and it held a sign-up event for merchants at Asiatique itself. Visitors from China and other East Asian markets may therefore be able to scan a stall's Thai QR code with their home app, but not every vendor is signed up. Ask before you order, and keep cash as the backup.

Card acceptance at food stalls is the exception rather than the rule. Our guide to using cards in Thailand covers ATM fees and when paying by card makes sense.

Rain, heat and getting home

Jodd Fairs and the Srinakarin market are open-air, and Bangkok's rainy season brings heavy showers from about May to October. A storm can clear a market in minutes, and some stalls close for the evening. On rainy days, Asiatique, with its covered warehouses, is the safer bet; our page on travel in Thailand's rainy season explains how the afternoon and evening storms usually behave.

The heat is the other problem. Even after sunset, a packed market feels hot, so drink water and take breaks. Thailand's Tobacco Products Control Act bans smoking at markets, including walking streets, with fines up to 5,000 baht; our page on where you can smoke in Thailand has the details.

For the trip back, note the time of the last train on your line before you leave, and keep the Grab app ready as the alternative. If anything is stolen or goes wrong, the Tourist Police answer on 1155; our list of Thai emergency numbers has the rest. If you are still choosing a base, our guide to where to stay in Bangkok shows which districts are close to the river and the MRT.

Frequently asked questions

Is Jodd Fairs Rama 9 still open?

TAT confirmed in February 2026 that Jodd Fairs is still trading, but reports since 2023 say the market was moving from the land behind Central Rama 9 to a new site on Ratchadaphisek Road. We could not confirm the current address officially, so check the market's own pages before you go.

How do I get to Asiatique for free?

Take the BTS to Saphan Taksin, leave by exit 2 and walk to Sathorn Pier. Asiatique's operator runs a free shuttle boat from there between 16:00 and 23:30, every 25 to 30 minutes, in both directions.

What time does Asiatique open and close?

The operator gives its hours as every day from 11:00 to midnight. The free shuttle boat runs only from 16:00, so if you arrive in the afternoon, use the orange-flag express boat, a taxi or a bus from BTS Saphan Taksin.

Can I pay with Alipay or WeChat Pay at Bangkok night markets?

Sometimes. TAT announced in June 2026 that cross-border QR payment with partners including Alipay, WeChat Pay and UnionPay is being rolled out to tourism businesses, but not every stall takes it. Carry baht in small notes and ask before ordering.

Which Bangkok night market is best on a rainy evening?

Asiatique, because much of it is in covered warehouses and the shuttle boat keeps running. Jodd Fairs and the Srinakarin train market are open-air, and stalls may close early when a heavy storm comes through.
