Finding a gym in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya or Hua Hin is easy: national chains sit in shopping malls, local gyms and studios fill the side streets, and many condos have their own. A visitor can walk into a chain gym with a passport and buy a day pass; at Jetts, the largest chain, that cost 500 or 600 baht in October 2026, and 30 days without a contract cost 2,500 or 3,000 baht.

The cheapest way to train for a long stay is a membership with a minimum term, but that means a contract and monthly billing. This page compares the options with the chains' own published prices, explains what to check before you sign, and covers the free and cheap alternatives. It does not rank gyms; prices change, so check them at the club.

Chain gyms or local gyms and studios

Thailand's city gyms fall into three groups. National and international chains (Jetts, Virgin Active, Fitness First, Anytime Fitness and others) are mostly in shopping malls and office buildings, with air conditioning, classes, showers and staff who deal with foreigners every day. Local gyms are smaller, often open-fronted and fan-cooled, aimed at Thai members, and usually much cheaper. Studios specialize in one thing: CrossFit-style training, yoga, pilates, climbing or boxing.

Chains suit people who move around, because one membership can cover clubs in several cities. Local gyms suit people who stay in one neighborhood and want a cheap monthly fee. Only the chains publish full price lists online. Fitness First and Anytime Fitness show no prices on their Thai sites and ask you to contact the club, and we found no local gym in Chiang Mai, Pattaya or Hua Hin with a readable price page, so we print no figures for them.

Day passes and short passes for visitors

Jetts sells a Visitor Pass with no joining fee and no long-term contract; a passport or ID card is all you need. It has two price levels, depending on the club type, as published on its tourist-pass page (last updated July 2026):

Jetts Visitor Pass1 day3 days7 days30 days
Jetts 24 Hour Fitness clubs฿500฿1,000฿1,500฿2,500
Jetts Fitness clubs฿600฿1,200฿1,800฿3,000

Classes are included at no extra cost. Read the hours before you buy: Jetts lists visitor access at its 24-hour clubs from 06:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and 08:00 to 20:00 at weekends and on public holidays, while its Jetts Fitness clubs open 06:00 to 24:00 every day. The 24-hour access is for members.

Virgin Active publishes no day-pass price. Other chains and many hotel gyms sell day passes at the desk, and a resort or hotel day pass often includes the gym along with the pool. The logic is the same as in coworking, where a day pass is the cheap way to test a place before you commit; our page on coworking in Chiang Mai and Bangkok covers desks.

Monthly memberships, minimum terms and lock-ins

For a stay of three months or more, a membership costs less per month than a visitor pass, but you sign up for a minimum term and pay monthly. Jetts' online prices (page updated March 2026), for its 24-hour clubs:

Jetts membershipMinimum termJetts 24 Hour clubs onlyAll Jetts clubs
Freedom3 months฿1,750/month฿2,050/month
Flexi 6 Months6 months฿1,650/month฿1,950/month
Stay Fit 12 Months12 months฿1,550/month฿1,850/month
6 months paid in advance-฿9,300฿11,100
12 months paid in advance-฿17,400฿21,000

Paid in advance for a year, that comes to 1,450 baht a month for the 24-hour clubs. Jetts lets members pause a membership for one billing cycle at a time, up to twice per calendar year, with ten days' notice to the home club; more pauses cost 450 baht per billing cycle. A lost card costs 750 baht to replace.

Virgin Active prices its memberships per week and bills every two weeks, on Thursdays, with no joining fee. Its published ranges in October 2026 were 385 to 590 baht a week for one visit a week (minimum 12 weeks), 650 to 990 baht a week for unlimited use with a minimum of 12 months, and 910 to 1,390 baht a week for unlimited use including the relaxation facilities (minimum 12 weeks). A "monthly" Virgin Active price you read elsewhere is a conversion.

Read the minimum term and how you cancel before you sign. We found no Thai consumer-protection rule written specifically for gym contracts. What protects you is the contract itself: the minimum term, how much notice you must give, whether billing stops when you leave Thailand, and whether a pause is allowed. Ask for it in English, keep a copy, and do not sign a 12-month card payment if you might leave in three.

The five cities: what you will find where

Bangkok has by far the most choice, with chain clubs at many BTS and MRT stations and in most large malls; Jetts alone lists dozens of Bangkok locations. Chiang Mai has Jetts clubs at One Nimman and Index Living Mall, plus many local gyms and studios around Nimman and the Old City. Phuket's Jetts clubs are at Central Phuket Festival, Robinson Chalong and Robinson Thalang, which suits people living inland more than those on the west-coast beaches. In Pattaya Jetts is at Little Walk Pattaya Klang, and in Hua Hin at Market Village; both towns also have independent gyms aimed at long-stay residents. Jetts also lists clubs in Krabi, Korat, Hat Yai, Chanthaburi and Surat Thani.

Club lists change, so check the chain's own branch page before you book a room near one. If you are moving for several months, our guides to long stays in Hua Hin and Pattaya's neighborhoods help you choose where to live; the gym is often just a short ride from there.

On the islands the picture is different. Our older guides to finding a gym on Koh Lipe and Phi Phi cover what each small island has.

Condo gyms: what your building may include

Many newer condominium buildings in Bangkok, Pattaya and Chiang Mai have a small gym and a pool for residents, run by the building's juristic person (the owners' management office). These rooms are free for residents but usually small: a few machines, dumbbells and a treadmill or two. They suit a quick session, not serious strength training.

Before you sign a lease, look at the gym yourself and ask the building office about its hours, whether tenants need a key card, and whether guests are allowed. House rules belong to the building, not to the landlord, and they can change. Our guide to renting a condo explains the lease itself.

Free exercise: parks and outdoor equipment

You do not have to pay to train. Bangkok's public parks are busy at dawn and around sunset with runners, aerobics groups and people using outdoor exercise stations; Lumphini Park has a running loop of about 2.5 km and outdoor equipment, as our guide to Bangkok's parks describes. Many city parks and university grounds elsewhere have running tracks and simple bars and benches.

We could not verify an official list of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration outdoor gyms or their opening hours, so check park hours on site. On days when fine-dust levels are high, in Bangkok mostly from December to February and in the north from about February to April, our page on PM2.5 air pollution explains when to move a workout indoors.

Training in the heat

Thailand is hot and humid all year, and a workout that is easy at home can tip you into heat exhaustion here, especially in the first week or in an open-fronted gym with fans. Train early in the morning or in an air-conditioned club, drink before you are thirsty, and cut the intensity until you have adjusted. Our page on heat and sun in Thailand lists the warning signs of heatstroke; call 1669 for an ambulance if someone becomes confused or collapses.

Muay Thai and other martial arts are a separate world, with camps, twice-daily sessions and their own visa questions; our guide to training at a Muay Thai camp covers them.

Bring a towel, a padlock and your passport. Many gyms ask you to put a towel on the benches, lockers may need your own lock, and a visitor pass is sold against a passport or ID card. Smoking is banned on the whole premises of gyms and sports venues under a 2018 Ministry of Public Health notification, including outside the door.
