Bangkok's immigration office for residents is Immigration Division 1, on the 2nd floor of Building B (South Zone) at the Government Complex on Chaeng Watthana Road, Lak Si. It is open Monday to Friday, 08:30–12:00 and 13:00–16:30, and hands out queue tickets from 08:30 to 15:30 (official page, August 2024 copy; check before you go).
Anyone who lives in Bangkok on a long-stay visa or extension ends up here sooner or later: for a yearly extension, a re-entry permit, a 90-day report in person or a change of visa type. The office is a long way from central Bangkok, and a few kinds of case are sent to other buildings. Knowing which is which saves a wasted trip.
This page is about the office itself. The procedures have their own guides, linked below, and we give each one a sentence here rather than repeat it.

Opening days, hours and the queue-ticket cut-off
The office keeps standard Thai government hours with a lunch break: 08:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday, closed on public holidays. The time that matters most, though, is 15:30. Queue tickets are issued only until then, so arriving at 15:45 with a perfect file means coming back another day.
Public holidays close the office, and Thailand adds special days off at short notice. Check our public holidays calendar before you plan a visit around a deadline, and avoid the day before a long weekend if you can. Our general guide to government office hours explains how lunch breaks and ticket cut-offs work across Thai offices.
Tickets stop at 15:30, an hour before closing. If your permission to stay ends today, go in the morning. Arriving after the cut-off means no ticket that day, and our guide to overstaying explains what a single late day costs.
Getting there by MRT Pink Line and the free shuttle
The Government Complex is in Lak Si district in the north of Bangkok, so allow time. The official page recommends rail:
- MRT Pink Line to Government Complex station (PK12), Exit 3. Walk along the skywalk to Parking Building D and take the free shuttle bus to Building B. The shuttle runs from 05:30 to midnight.
- From the BTS Sukhumvit (Green) Line, change to the Pink Line at Wat Phra Sri Mahathat (N17) and ride to Government Complex.
- From the SRT Dark Red Line, change to the Pink Line at Lak Si and ride to Government Complex.
From Government Complex station you can also walk to Soi Chaeng Watthana 7 and take the shuttle or a motorbike taxi. Our guide to the BTS and MRT covers the network, and the page on paying for Bangkok's trains explains which cards work on the Pink Line.
By bus, taxi or car
City buses 66, 166 and 513 stop at the Government Complex; buses 52 and 150 on the Pak Kret routes stop at the NT bus stop, from where you walk to Soi Chaeng Watthana 7 and take the shuttle. The bus authority's call center is 1348.
A taxi or Grab can drop you at the 2nd-floor car park, Gate 2: walk straight in and turn right. If you drive, the official page suggests Parking Building BC (Gate 3) or the new Parking Building D with its shuttle, to avoid congestion around Building B. For fares and apps, see our comparison of taxis and Grab in Bangkok.
What Building B handles, and what goes elsewhere
Immigration Division 1 lists these services at Chaeng Watthana: issuing and changing visa types, re-entry permits, permanent residence matters, endorsements, alien registration, extensions of stay, 90-day notifications (TM.47) and residence notifications (TM.30).
Some cases are sent elsewhere, and this is where people lose half a day:
| Your case | Where to go (August 2024 page) |
|---|---|
| Extension of a visa-exempt stay or visa on arrival; transit and courtesy visas; APEC card holders | Counter K, IT Square (Laksi Plaza), 3rd floor |
| BOI, SMART and special-law visa holders | One Stop Service, Chamchuri Square Building, 18th floor |
| LTR visa holders | The BOI's service center moved to One Bangkok in March 2025; check the BOI page |
| Legalized migrant workers (Non L-A) | A separate service center for migrant labor |
| Everything else for Bangkok residents | Building B, 2nd floor |
The Counter K arrangement comes from the 2024 page and we could not confirm it on a current official page in October 2026, so check before you go. Visitors on a visa exemption or a visa on arrival should confirm the address before traveling across town. Holders of the Long-Term Resident visa deal with the BOI's own center.
Which procedure brings you here
Each of these has its own guide, so here is one line on each:
- Yearly extension of stay (form TM.7). The conditions depend on why you stay; for retirees, our retirement visa guide sets out the money rules, and workers should read the page on the Non-B visa and work permit.
- 90-day report (TM.47). It can be filed online, by post or in person; the methods and the time window are in our guide to 90-day reporting.
- Re-entry permit (TM.8). Get it before any trip abroad; our page on the re-entry permit covers fees and forms.
- Residence notification (TM30). Your landlord's duty, not yours, explained in our article on the TM30.
What to bring on the day
The exact list depends on the procedure, and it is on the guides above. A few things apply to almost every visit:
- your passport, plus copies of the photo page, the current visa or extension stamp and the last entry stamp;
- the completed form for your procedure, downloaded from the immigration site where possible;
- recent passport photos of the size the form asks for (the re-entry form TM.8 asks for 4 × 6 cm);
- the fee, and the documents behind your reason for staying (bank letter, marriage certificate, work permit);
- your latest TM30 receipt or other proof of address, which officers may check.
The Immigration Bureau headquarters is somewhere else. It sits at Muang Thong Thani in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi. Bangkok residents' cases go to Building B at Chaeng Watthana, not to the headquarters.
Online options before you make the trip
Several things no longer need a visit. The 90-day report can be made online at tm47.immigration.go.th, except the first report after a new passport. The division's website lists an online queue booking, and in 2024 its home page also linked an online extension service (e-Extension, run with VFS) for Bangkok residents in listed categories; check whether your case qualifies before you queue. Landlords file the TM30 online at tm30.immigration.go.th.
