A typical small post office in Thailand opens Monday to Friday 08:30–16:30 and Saturday morning 09:00–12:00, and stays shut on Sundays and public holidays. The big exceptions are the General Post Office in Bangkok, which opens every day, the main offices in tourist towns, and post office counters inside shopping malls (as of October 2026).
Thailand Post does not publish one schedule for the whole country. Each office sets its own hours, and the company lists them office by office in its online branch finder. We checked about 25 offices in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Koh Samui in October 2026, and the pattern below holds for most of them. Small differences of half an hour are common, so treat the times as a guide, not a promise.
This page is only about when you can get to a counter. What to send and how much it costs is in our guide to sending mail and packages from Thailand, and collecting something that was sent to you is covered in receiving parcels in Thailand.

The ordinary neighborhood post office
Most Thai post offices are small branches with two or three counters. In the records we checked, offices such as Huai Mongkhon and Thap Tai near Hua Hin, Chaweng and Choeng Mon on Koh Samui and Na Nai in Kathu on Phuket all keep the same short week: 08:30 to 16:30 on weekdays and three hours on Saturday morning. They close on Sundays and on public holidays.
The closing time is when the office shuts, not the last moment to start a job. A parcel abroad means packing, weighing and filling in a customs form, so give yourself at least half an hour before closing. That matters most on Saturday, when a small office is open for only three hours.
The General Post Office in Bangkok
Bangkok's General Post Office, usually shortened to GPO, is at 1160 Charoen Krung Road in Bang Rak, by the river. According to Thailand Post's own record it has opened every day since 1 December 2018. The hours are Monday to Friday 08:00–20:00, Saturday 08:00–17:00 and Sunday 08:00–13:00. It is not open 24 hours, despite claims you may read online.
The record for public holidays contradicts itself: a note says the office opens at normal hours on holidays, while the holiday time fields show it closed. Our reading is that the GPO opens on most holidays, but on a major one such as Songkran it is worth calling 02-234-9530 before you make the trip. For more on the area around it, see our Bangkok city guide.
Travelers staying near Khao San Road have a closer option. The Ratchadamnoen post office on Ratchadamnoen Klang Road keeps almost the same hours as the GPO: Monday to Friday 08:00–20:00, Saturday 08:00–17:00 and Sunday 08:00–12:00.
Weekend hours in Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya and Hua Hin
The main post office in a tourist town usually opens longer than a neighborhood branch, and several open on Sundays. These are the hours Thailand Post lists for the offices visitors use most.
| Post office | Mon–Fri | Saturday | Sunday and holidays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chiang Mai main office, Charoen Muang Road | 08:00–19:00 | 08:00–19:00 | 08:00–19:00 |
| Patong, Phuket (Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road) | 08:30–18:00 | 09:00–16:00 | 09:00–12:00 |
| Pattaya (Soi Chaiyasit) | 08:30–20:00 | 08:30–20:00 | 08:30–20:00 |
| Bang Lamung (Pattaya area) | 08:30–20:00 | 08:30–16:30 | 08:30–16:30 |
| Hua Hin, Damnoen Kasem Road | 08:00–18:00 | 09:00–12:00 | 09:00–12:00 |
| Mae Nam, Koh Samui | 08:00–17:00 | 09:00–12:00 | Closed |
| Chaweng, Koh Samui | 08:30–16:30 | 09:00–12:00 | Closed |

Post office counters inside shopping malls
Thailand Post runs small counters inside many shopping centers, and these are the easiest option on a Sunday or in the evening. The ones we checked open every day: Central Festival Chiang Mai 11:00–19:00, Kad Suan Kaew in Chiang Mai 10:00–19:00 and Big C on Koh Samui 11:00–19:00. Mall hours in general are covered in our guide to shop and mall opening hours.
Search the branch finder by postcode, not by town name. Thailand Post's office finder lists each office's hours for weekdays, Saturday, Sunday and holidays, but its name, district and province fields only accept Thai script. Type the five-digit postcode instead (10501 for the GPO, 50000 for central Chiang Mai, 83150 for Patong); the hours in the results are plain numbers.
Public holidays, and the Bangkok-only holiday on 16 October 2026
Small post offices close on public holidays, and so do many medium-sized ones. The offices that list holiday opening in their records are the larger ones: the Chiang Mai main office, Pattaya, Patong (morning only), Hua Hin (morning only) and, with the caveat above, the GPO. Our list of Thai public holidays shows the remaining dates for 2026, including Tuesday 13 October and Friday 23 October.
Friday 16 October 2026 is a special holiday in Bangkok only, declared for the IMF and World Bank meetings in the city. We could not find a Thailand Post notice for that day, so if you need a Bangkok office on 16 October, check with the hotline first. Banks in Bangkok close that day; see bank opening hours in Thailand.
Post offices compared with other Thai offices
Post offices keep longer hours than most government offices, which work 08:30–16:30 on weekdays only and often stop issuing queue tickets well before closing. Our guide to government office hours explains the lunch break and queue rules. One task links the two: the 90-day address report can be sent by registered post, which our 90-day reporting guide describes.
Plan around Saturday's three-hour window. If you are only in a small town over a weekend, Saturday 09:00–12:00 may be your only chance at a local counter. Otherwise look for a mall counter or the main office in the nearest city.
Frequently asked questions
Are Thai post offices open on Sunday?
Most small post offices are closed on Sundays. The Bangkok GPO opens 08:00–13:00 on Sundays, the Chiang Mai main office and the Pattaya office open all day, and counters in shopping malls usually open every day from late morning until about 19:00.
What time does the post office open on Saturday in Thailand?
A typical small office opens 09:00–12:00 on Saturday. Larger offices open longer: the Bangkok GPO 08:00–17:00, Patong on Phuket 09:00–16:00 and the Chiang Mai main office 08:00–19:00, according to Thailand Post's records in October 2026.
Is the Bangkok GPO open 24 hours?
No. The General Post Office on Charoen Krung Road opens Monday to Friday 08:00–20:00, Saturday 08:00–17:00 and Sunday 08:00–13:00. It opens every day of the week, which is unusual in Thailand, but not around the clock.
How can I find the opening hours of a specific Thai post office?
Use the office finder on thailandpost.co.th and search by the five-digit postcode. Each office has its own entry with hours for weekdays, Saturday, Sunday and holidays. You can also call the Thailand Post hotline on 1545, which answers every day.
